Our beautifully crafted tour incorporates the very best of Italian hospitality, cuisine and cycling culture. Our head guide and ex-pro Danielle Ratto will ride with you each day and will happily share stories of his time in the pro peleton, riding with Sagan and Nibali.
Our no hassel packages allow you to focus on riding and enjoying the Giro d’Italia. Our dedicated team of staff will insure that you all you need to worry about is taking photos and what flavour ice cream you want to order! We know the best places to take you for coffee, and as a full time cycling tour operator in Italy we rightly are considered experts in Italian cycling tourism.
We offer flexibility to our clients and appreciate that not everyone will want to ride everyday and not everyone will want to ride ‘long’ distances. Our inclusive approach gives everybody the chance to do as much or as little as they wish. We welcome non-riders and those who simply wish to enjoy Italy in all all its splendid glory.
Our team will meet you at the airport and transfer you to our hotel based in the heart of Veneto. The staff at Hotel Asolo are great friends of ours and as ever will give a traditional Italian welcome to our clients. With plenty of time to relax and unwind your first afternoon in Italy is a chance to recharge batteries after travel. An optional ride will take place in the afternoon for riders wanting to stretch legs and explore this beautiful area before dinner.
Our reputation as discovering the perfect places for clients to sample the best local food is well deserved and this evening we will once again be visiting Pippo at his very brilliant restaurant. Superb food and excellent wine come as standard. Viva Italia!
When you can smell sumptuous brioche being freshly prepared and can taste fresh coffee on your taste buds then you have truly have arrived in Italy. We have a great first day planned for you to look forward to. Riders will have the chance to ride to the finish of today’s stage. The 35km largely flat ride through enchanting villages and meandering through endless vineyards gives riders the chance to get to know one another. No need to stress about where you are going, just follow Daniele and the team who will be guide you to the beautiful town of Nervosa della Battaglia.
Non -riders will have a separate programme for the day and let’s facet it wouldn’t be a real visit to Veneto without visiting one of the many fantastic vineyards in the area for a spot of wine tasting! Non-riders will then be transfer to the stage finish to meet up with the riders.
On watching the stage finish riders will have an option to ride the 35km back to the hotel at a slightly quicker pace or if they prefer they grab a ride back to the hotel with the non-riders in the mini bus. This evening you are free to explore the local area and choose your own restaurant from which to enjoy a great evening meal.
Are you ready? There are few climbs in the world that conjure up as much excitement and trepidation as Zoncolon. Today is your chance to ride this epic climb. We leave Asolo early and head north towards the town of Tolmezzo. On arrival at Tolmezzo your bikes will be waiting for you and the team in place to pump tires, hand out energy bars and give last minute advice before you ride towards Zoncolon.
A wash with pink fever today is the day that many people think the Giro d’Italia will be blown apart and you will be on the road side to watch the action unfold. This is really is the essence of the Giro d’Italia! Non-riders will also be on Zoncolon enjoying the festivities with here head guide Marco.
This evening we will be staying in Sappada, a beautiful ski resort that boasts spectacular views of the surrounding area. It is also hosts the stage finish on the following day, thus meaning that you once again on a Italy Bike Tours Giro d’Italia package are in the heart of the action. Dinner will be served in the excellent hotel restaurant.
No need to wake up early! Have a lie in or go for a stroll around this pretty little village this morning. This mornings ride will start with a descent towards Campolongo before we loop back to Sappada and ride the climb that the pro peloton will ride later that day. We will be back in time for a shower and lunch before the race arrives.
Non riders today will be lead on a fabulous hike around the surrounding mountains. The hike will be no more than 10km and be timed so that we will all meet in time to watch the stage finish.
On arrival at the hotel you will have time to unpack before riders will meet our mechanics in the hotel bike room. Our team of professionals will assist those who have bike boxes and those hiring bikes will have a small bike fit. An optional ride led by our guides will leave the hotel in the late afternoon. The direction of course is the spectacular Lake Garda. The ride of 35km is a perfect warm up for the week ahead. Non-riders need not worry, as they will be transferred the short distance to the nearby town of Torbole for some sightseeing and a stroll around this beautiful town.
Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant. A chance for you to enjoy great good, sample superb wine and get to know new friends who you will be sharing the week with.
After a scrumptious breakfast clients will have the opportunity to choose either our easy or difficult ride, both of which arrive in Rovereto. The harder ride is a 85km loop that takes riders north to the bottom of Monte Bondone. With 20km of climbing ahead this is an option for clients with a good level of fitness. It is however spectacular in every way and with a support vehicle following, it is achievable for most. The easier ride is a 40km slower paced ride that takes clients towards Lake Garda before heading up a steady climb to Rovereto. Much of the ride is ridden on cycle paths.
On arrival on Rovereto on bike our team will be waiting for you at a beautiful cafe near the finish of today’s stage. This reserved space gives clients the chance to relax, change shoes, meet up with non-riders and leave bikes in a secure place. Rovereto is famous for its modern art museum and we have arranged entry for clients to explore the very best of modern Italian art.
The stage promises to be an exciting finish as the time trial specialist look to assert an advantage over the climbers. The start of the third week is going to be full on great riding and you will be up close and personal to watch. After the conclusion of the stage riders will have a chance to descent to the hotel or jump in one of our mini buses.
Tonight an opportunity to explore Lake Garda, the perfect location to enjoy an evening reflecting on the day’s stage.
This morning we leave Lake Garda and take the short trip to the paradise that is Lake Iseo. On arrival at La Pieve hotel you will have plenty of time to unpack and enjoy the scenery before riders take a spectacular ride towards the centre of today’s stage in Iseo. Surrounding by the stunning Franciacorta wine region this going to be an amazing day on the bike. Non riders can look forward to an option of wine tasting or Franciacorta outlet village!
The easy 28km ride back to the hotel takes you along one of the most beautiful cycle paths in Italy. This evening’s meal will served in the picturesque little village called Castro. Volcano is one of our very favourite restuarants.
We leave Lake Iseo in a westerly direction to view the start of todays Stage 18 in Abbiategrasso. Non riders will have a seperate agenda and will be offered the option to be transferred to Milan for a day of site seeing or should they prefer they can attend the stage start. Once the riders have rolled out of Abbiategrasso we will transfer you to Piemonte.
Whilst the Giro heads towards Prato Nevoso we will drive towards the foothills of Colle di Finestre. Climbing Colle di Finestre the day before the pro peloton gives clients the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful mountain in safe and in a less chaotic environment. Time to enjoy and take in the wonder of a climb made famous for it’s unmade final 8km. For those more adventurous, we will offer the opportunity to ride the final 70 kilometres of the next day’s stage which includes riding Sestriere.
We finish the day with the clients being transferred to Jafferau. Our beautiful hotel positioned near the finish of the next day’s stage. Feel the buzz of an arrival town and enjoy the festivities of the night before the race arrives! Dinner will be served in the hotel restaurant.
For fans of Eddie Mercx, Jafferau is a special place, as in 1972 his win on Jafferau is immortalised in cycling folklore. The climb is relatively short at just over 7km, however its average gradient and many switchbacks make for great riding and viewing. Of course clients will have the chance to ride the climb! After breakfast we will offer riders two options to decsend or take the mini bus to Bardonecchia.
Bardonecchia was the home of the 2006 Winter Olympics and non-riders can look forward to a trip on a ski lift to arrive at this famous little town. Clients riding Jafferau will experience the thrill of riding on a closed road only a handful of hours before the pro peloton reach the summit. With plenty of time to take a shower, relax and change in to some comfy clothes, you will really feel the benefit of having a hotel in such a great location.
We have arranged for a great viewing point for you to watch the stage, which will be surely one of the most important stages in the 2018 Giro d’Italia. Famed for it’s great cheeses and salami offers foodies a great chance for clients to explore local restaurants in the evening.
This morning we leave our mountain base in Jafferau and head north towards the mountains in north Piemonte. Today’s stage will in essence decide the tour as the challenging route will offer an opportunity to for GC contenders to attack tired rivals. This morning riders will dropped off at approximately 20 kms from the start of today’s final climb. The climb to Cervinia is long, very long but its average gradient of only 5% allows riders to get in a steady rhythm.
We are delighted to offer a very special viewing experience at the top of Cervinia with riders and non-riders meeting to enjoy the final few 100 meters of today’s stage with a glass of processeco in hand. Clients will have plenty of time to watch the podium presentation and potentially a new pink jersey wearer. Dinner will be served in a nearby restaurant as we watch the sunset over the Alps for one last time.
Following dinner we will transfer you to our hotel near Torino airport in preparation for your early morning flight to Italy’s capital.
Our flight lands in Rome at 8:00am and with the day’s final stage starting in the evening you will have plenty of time to enjoy spectacular Rome. With so much to do and see we are sure you will be eager to explore the area the moment you arrive. We once again have arranged for a short guided walking tour for those interested in getting the insider knowledge of Rome.
The short individual time trial circumnavigates around some of Rome’s most famous monuments including the Colosseum, Trevi fountain, Basilica and the Vatican. With the sun shining this promises to be the most memorable of days. This evening’s dinner will be enjoyed in a superb restaurant as we enjoy our last night together.
All good things must come to an end and this morning we will organise your transfer to Rome international airport.

Below is how we categorise our cycling breaks. If you are unsure about anything then we will be delighted to answer your questions.
Barbaro – Packages designed by people who enjoy pain! If you are a rider that gets a thrill from hours in the saddle and riding uphill on a regular basis then these trips are for you. An excellent level of fitness is needed as the demands placed on you and the bike from riding one of these packages is savage!
Difficile – It is too easy to say that these packages are for club cyclists. However they are for club cyclists along with riders who take cycling and training seriously. An appetite for long distances and riding uphill are needed as the rides will be long, challenging and at times fast.
Medio – Designed with the average cyclists in mind these packages offer the rider the chance to experience flats, rolling hills and the odd mountain top finish. If you have realised your days in the pro peleton are over but you still love cycling, then these holidays are for you.
Facile – If you are booking on one of our ‘Easy’ packages then prepare yourself for plenty of flat riding and flat white coffees. These steady paced and enjoyable weeks are designed to appeal to those looking for a holiday with cycling.
