It is hard to imagine a week of cycling so challenging and spectacular. Designed by our team to pay homage to the great climbs in Giro d’Italia thus giving you an opportunity to ride for yourself the roads that Coppi, Pantani and Scarponi made folklore.
This fully supported package is perfect for clients looking to tick climbs on there bucket list. It is also the first time that an Italy Bike Tours has left Italy. However the Col d’Izoard was a climb we wanted to offer to our clients. Other highlights of the trip include the iconic Col de Finestra, Ghisallo, Stelvio, Gavia and Mortiriolo.
Our team will meet you at Turin or Milan airports and transfer you to Castello Rosso in the heart of Piemonte. One of our favourite hotels in region Cstello Rosso offers the perfect base too relax and unwind after your travels. After lunch and a briefing conducting by a lead guide about the week we will assist you in assembling your bike or if you have hired a bike our mechanics will be on hand to make any adjustments needed. The late afternoon ride will head towards Cuneo and the foothills of some spectacular mountains. Importantly the first ride of the week is flat! Giving clients the opportunity to stretch legs before the week challenge that lies ahead. The first day culminates in a sumptuous dinner served in the hotel restaurant.
Our ride today takes you through the …. valley. As the road meanders through the valley you will notice the mountains and scenery becoming more spectacular. The gradient of the road also changes as you reach the bottom of the Colle sell’Angello. Between you and the summit of 2744meters is over 20km of some of the most beautiful riding in the whole of the Alps. The last 5 kilometres are a particular challenge as the road regular reaches over 10% gradient. The spectacular view at the summit is worth the effort. One side Italian and on the other side France this climb has appeared several times in both the Giro d’Italia and Tour de France. The final 10km of the ride is descent to our hotel in ……
Some climbs need no introduction and Col d’Izoard is one. This morning we are heading towards one of the Alps must iconic mountains. Famed for it’s baron almost lunar like landscape the Cold’Izoard rightly has it’s place in cycling folklore. The relatively easy start to the day comprises of 20km of either descending or flat. A chance to warm muscles before tackling the ascent of Col d’Izoard.
A day starting in France and finishes with dinner in Turin with some seriously epic climbing in between. After breakfast we will transfer you from your hotel in Briancon to ….. On arrival your bikes will be waiting for you and we will speedily head in north towards Col d’Finestra. Famed for it’s ‘unmade’ last 8 kilometres the climb become famed around the world for the 2005 Giro d’Itlia when the often malign Danilo di Luca reached the summit first. The descent in to Finestrelle offers the chance to reflect on the beauty of the Alps. After lunch we will transfer you to Turin to enjoy the city made famous by the Angelli family.
No country in Europe can offer the variety in terrain and scenery that Italy does. After breakfast in Turin we will transfer you to Lake Como. A breath taxingly beautiful place popular with celebrities and professional cyclists looking to rest in the off season. Our lakeside splendid views across to Lecco. A town known by many cyclist he enjoy the final classic of the year Giro il Lombardia. Our afternoon rides takes us along the shoreline on Como before reaching Bellagio and the bottom of the Ghisallo. A brutal start awaits as the first 4 km offer unrelenting steep slopes before an ease in gradient for the middle section. A chance to catch your breath and admire Lake Como below before reaching the summit. The Ghisallo church and musuem is a must for any serious cyclist and the pilgrimage is made by 10,000’s of cyclist each year.
After a hearty breakfast and a transfer to Bormio we will set off from the hotel in the direction of the Stelvio. Over 21km of ascent awaits the brave as the group head for the summit of Europe’s second highest paved pass. On reaching the summit you will be met by the team who will be waiting for you with a warm drink and our professional photographer will be snapping away providing you with proof to your friends and family you completed the challenge of a cycling lifetime.
The final ride of the week is the toughest. We have planned an epic finale that will require tired legs to keep peddling. Staring with the Passo Gavia which finsihes at 2632 meters and the decent in to Ponte di Legno. The final climb of the week is Mortitolo. Fortunately we will be tackling the ‘easier’ side however with 6 days of cycling behind you this is surely going to be the toughest climb of the week. On arrival back at the hotel we have arranged a celebratory dinner to celebrate your achievements.

Italy Bike Tours will not be liable if any additional expenses are incurred through delay, accident or disruptions of planned itineraries beyond our control, e.g, terrorist activity, strikes, natural disasters, adverse weather conditions, fire, technical problems of transport, closure of ports or airports, cancellation or changes of schedule by scheduled airlines, or similar events beyond our control. Such expenses are the responsibility of the customer.
Instructions for bicycle use is assumed and not provided, and all customers assume all risks associated with the activity they have booked. Customers affirm they are familiar with the operation of a multi speed bicycle. By booking a package with Italy Bike Tours you affirm that you are in good health and are physically capable of engaging in the activity you are booking. Helmet use is essential and not optional.
Italy Bike Tours are not liable for personal injury, death, damage to property or other loss whether arising from accident, cancellations, delays or any other situation that may arise. Italy Bike Tours clients should insure against all such possibilities.
All clients travelling with Italy Bike Tours must have adequate travel insurance which must include cover for medical expenses arising from accident or personal injury, cycling abroad, loss of luggage and cancellation. A copy of your insurance certificate must be sent to Italy Bike Tours no later than one week prior to your tour commencing. Italy Bike Tours reserve the right at any time to substitute alternative accommodation or to make any other alteration to the tours which become necessary due to circumstances beyond their control and undertake to inform participants as soon as possible.

61-90 days: 50% refund of trip cost, less 100% of deposit
31-60 days: 25% refund of trip cost, less 100% of deposit

Italy Bike Tours is not responsible for expenses incurred in preparation for any cancelled trips, such as airline tickets. we recommend confirming your trip with Italy Bike Tours before making rail/air arrangements that might be non-refundable. Italy Bike Tours reserves the right to make route and hotel modifications as needed.Italy Bike Tours reserves the right to cancel any private custom trip at any time if there are fewer participants than originally specified.
On the rare occasions when Italy Bike Tours must cancel a trip due to unforeseen circumstances, natural disaster or civil unrest, all payments received to date will be refunded, less the deposit, which constitutes full settlement.
A valid passport is required to gain entry to Countries outside your country of residence. Clients are responsible for ensuring that their passport is valid and also for ensuring they have the correct visa required to enter the country of the trip. Foreign nationals are advised to contact their local embassy to check their visa requirements.
Very rarely Italy Bike Tours may be forced to cancel a trip. We reserve the right to cancel a trip for any reason up to 30 days prior to the date of departure. In these circumstances, you will be entitled to either book any other available tour from our website. If the cost is less, you will be refunded the difference, but where the cost is more, you will be expected to pay the additional cost, or alternatively, Italy Bike Tours will provide a full refund of money already paid.
In the event that it is necessary for Italy Bike Tours to cancel a specific tour, Italy Bike Tours will not be liable for any flight costs incurred. Refunds are paid by direct bank transfer.
No cycling holiday can be enjoyed without the right amount of challenge and the right amount of coffee breaks. Barbaro – Packages designed by people who enjoy pain! If you are a rider that gets a thrill from hours in the saddle and riding uphill on a regular basis then these trips are for you. An excellent level of fitness is needed as the demands placed on you and the bike from riding one of these packages is savage!
Difficile – It is too easy to say that these packages are for club cyclists. However they are for club cyclists along with riders who take cycling and training seriously. An appetite for long distances and riding uphill are needed as the rides will be long, challenging and at times fast.
Medio – Designed with the average cyclists in mind these packages offer the rider the chance to experience flats, rolling hills and the odd mountain top finish. If you have realised your days in the pro peleton are over but you still love cycling, then these holidays are for you.
Facile – If you are booking on one of our ‘Easy’ packages then prepare yourself for plenty of flat riding and flat white coffees. These steady paced and enjoyable weeks are designed to appeal to those looking for a holiday with cycling.
