Welcome to Italy! On arrival at the airport you will be met be one of our friendly Italy Bike Tours staff who will will happily assist you with your luggage before we head off in the direction on Lecce. Your private transfer from Brindisi will take 45 minutes and will be a useful time for your to get to know our team and other guests joining us during the week.
Lecce is a small yet beautiful Â city famous for it’s rich cultural heritage, it is know as the baroque capital of Italy. In the centre of the city lies a Roman theatre dating back 30 years BC. Â You will get a chance to learn about thee city in an organised walking tour before dinner.
The Santa Chiara hotel is a favourite hotel in Lecce. It’s splendid rooms and great location make it the perfect place for clients to unwind after long journeys. Our staff will be on hand to assist you with assembling your bike or for those that have hired bikes our mechanics will do a short ‘bike fit’ to ensure your ride is perfect. Dinner will be taken in one of the best restaurants in Lecce. A chance to taste local dishes prepared with the fresh local produce.
After breakfast we bid farewell to Lecce and pedal south in the direction of Laghi Alimini. Riding in Puglia you will immediately notice the abundance of olive trees that line the quiet rides and ancient villages we pass through. With your guides setting a pace suitable for the group you can look forward to the wind in your hair with no need to worry about getting lost. Our support team will be in place to refill bottles and hand out snacks when needed.
As you approach Ortranto you will see the Mediterranean for the first time. The crystal clear blue water and horizon a spectacular site even for the most travelled. Be sure to save some energy in the legs as our hotel is positioned splendidly above the old city. A climb of 500 meters awaits you as does a nice glass of proseco when you arrive in the hotel. The first day of riding complete and a well deserved drink on the terrazzo overlooking the surrounding area is your reward.
We have chosen a special restaurant this evening for you to enjoy. Nestled on one of the ancient cobbled streets Da Sergio is a superb resturant offering a combination of fish, meat and vegetarian dishes. You can be sure to enjoy a very Italian welcome!
A spectacular day awaits riders as after breakfast we pedal again South to the most southernly point of Puglia. Today is as challenging as it is beautiful. The ride of 55km’s hugs the Mediterranean shoreline and although starting flat for the first 10km’s the undulating road becomes very evident. Although the road is not steep the gradual climbs and fun descents make for great riding.
Today offers many opportunities for photos as we pass through fishing villages and endless beaches. The coastline is awash with then hustle and bustle of Italian life in the high summer. If you are lucky you may see some locals cliff diving from one of the many popular spots near Santa Maria fi Leuca.
A small climb again waits riders on the approach to Montirò hotel. Our staff really love this hotel which is set back above Santa Maria di Leuca. You will have a time for a quick shower before we transfer you the short distance to your private boat trip to visit one of the many caves in the area. This trip of 1 hour is a real highlight for many visiting the area. We are delighted to offer you the chance to discover Sante Maria di Leuca and one of the many restaurants as this evening you are free to chose your own place to dine.
This morning we will head in land for several kilometres as we enjoy the delights of the many quite roads through farms, villages and over ancient bridges. The variety of the landscape in Puglia will be seen today as we head north towards our favourite spot in Puglia. Gallipoli needs no introduction, this beautiful spot on west Puglia is one of the most visited areas in Italy. It is easy to see why!
We have found the very best location for you to stay while Gallipoli. The Relais Corte Palmieri offers clients the perfect base to explore the cobbled streets and narrow lanes that make Gallipoli so extroidinary. Before dinner we have arranged for you to have a guided tour around the city, this is the best way to understand the history and myths regarding this charming place. Be sure to have your camera at the ready.
Gallipoli at night has a magical atmosphere as the night vendors and street market offer those looking to buy souvenirs the perfect opportunity. Our restaurant this evening in situated in the centre of Gallipoli, we have reserved the best table in the house for you to enjoy great food and fabulous wine.
A relaxing morning awaits both rider and non-riders as we will leave the Gallipoli at a 11am. Plenty of time to take photos of the local fisher men heading out for a days work or maybe returning after a hard night on the Mediterranean. Today will transfer you to Ceglie Messapica but on the way we will stop at a leading producing of olive oil. Our friends at De Donno have been producing olive oil for nearly 50 years.
Along with Angelo and his team we have designed a fabulous experience for you to learn, taste and enjoy so of the products that have earned De Donno a reputation as one of the best producers of olive oil in Puglia. The guided tour and visit to the museum is followed a light lunch where you will have the opportunity to sample for yourself some of the variety of products they produce.
After lunch we will continue via transfer to Ceglie Messapica. The wow factor awaits as your accommodation is a 500 year old typical farm building. Lovely restored by it’s owner Gianfranco the Masseria Genovese is wonderful in every way. The small courtyard and beautiful outdoor swimming pool are sure to be enjoyed by clients. What a real treat, the essence of real Italy! After a relaxing afternoon clients will be shuttled 2 km to the centre of Ceglie Messapica to enjoy an evening is this popular town
We are back on bike! After a scrummy breakfast it’s time to ride the 1km of private road of Masseria Genovese before heading north to Puglia’s most famous town. Alberobello is a truly unique place. Nowhere in the world is quiet like it. The ride from Ceglie Messapica is inland and the terrain a mixture of flat roads and rolling hills lines with endless vineyards and olive trees.
Along the way we will stop for the customary coffee stop to rest weary legs and of course take in our daily dose of caffeine. The final climb leading in to Alberobello is a challenge but well worth the effort. Our team have once again discovered a real gem for you as this evening you will be staying in your very own trulli! An experience like nothing else, this IS Puglia!
Each trulli has it’s unique style and dimensions. Alberobello is a World Heritage site as there are more trull’s here than anywhere else in Puglia. Because similar structures are found in Turkey, Sardinia, Spain and southern France, historians believe that different ethnic groups influenced the style of the buildings. Dinner today will be served in our hosts restaurant. A place that couldn’t get more Italian. Great salami, cheese and pasta come as standard.
Sadly it’s time to leave Alberobello and pedal towards our final destination of Polignano a Mare. We have saved the best for last, firstly the riding is predominantly a very welcome downhill and secondly our hotel is situated over looking the most famous bay in Puglia. Famed for it’s many cliff divers and clear blue sea this is as close to perfect as it gets.
The Hotel Covo dei Saraceni has one of the most spectacular locations for any restaurants in the area. A great vantage point to look over the surrounding area and reflect, rejoice and recharge you glasses to celebrate the discovery of Puglia on your bike.

By booking a package with Italy Bike Tours you affirm that you are in good health and are physically capable of engaging in the activity you are booking. Helmet use is essential and not optional.
Italy Bike Tours are not liable for personal injury, death, damage to property or other loss whether arising from accident, cancellations, delays or any other situation that may arise. Italy Bike Tours clients should insure against all such possibilities.
All clients travelling with Italy Bike Tours must have adequate travel insurance which must include cover for medical expenses arising from accident or personal injury, cycling abroad, loss of luggage and cancellation. A copy of your insurance certificate must be sent to Italy Bike Tours no later than one week prior to your tour commencing. Italy Bike Tours reserve the right at any time to substitute alternative accommodation or to make any other alteration to the tours which become necessary due to circumstances beyond their control and undertake to inform participants as soon as possible.

On the rare occasions when Italy Bike Tours must cancel a trip due to unforeseen circumstances, natural disaster or civil unrest, all payments received to date will be refunded, less the deposit, which constitutes full settlement.
A valid passport is required to gain entry to Countries outside your country of residence. Clients are responsible for ensuring that their passport is valid and also for ensuring they have the correct visa required to enter the country of the trip. Foreign nationals are advised to contact their local embassy to check their visa requirements.
Very rarely Italy Bike Tours may be forced to cancel a trip. We reserve the right to cancel a trip for any reason up to 30 days prior to the date of departure. In these circumstances, you will be entitled to either book any other available tour from our website. If the cost is less, you will be refunded the difference, but where the cost is more, you will be expected to pay the additional cost, or alternatively, Italy Bike Tours will provide a full refund of money already paid.
In the event that it is necessary for Italy Bike Tours to cancel a specific tour, Italy Bike Tours will not be liable for any flight costs incurred. Refunds are paid by direct bank transfer.
No cycling holiday can be enjoyed without the right amount of challenge and the right amount of coffee breaks. Of course one rider’s ‘easy’ is another rider’s ‘medium’ but we hope with the information we have given in our itineraries and support and advice we give before booking, that everybody finds what they are looking for.

Barbaro – Packages designed by people who enjoy pain! If you are a rider that gets a thrill from hours in the saddle and riding uphill on a regular basis then these trips are for you. An excellent level of fitness is needed as the demands placed on you and the bike from riding one of these packages is savage!
Difficile – It is too easy to say that these packages are for club cyclists. However they are for club cyclists along with riders who take cycling and training seriously. An appetite for long distances and riding uphill are needed as the rides will be long, challenging and at times fast.
Medio – Designed with the average cyclists in mind these packages offer the rider the chance to experience flats, rolling hills and the odd mountain top finish. If you have realised your days in the pro peleton are over but you still love cycling, then these holidays are for you.
Facile – If you are booking on one of our ‘Easy’ packages then prepare yourself for plenty of flat riding and flat white coffees. These steady paced and enjoyable weeks are designed to appeal to those looking for a holiday with cycling.

Our friends at Relais once again are our hosts in their beautiful Corte Palmieri hotel. The hotel is a wonderful historical house dating back to 1700 situated in the dense maze of alleys, streets and squares of the famous fishing village of Gallipoli.
